Hi, I’m Marcia L. King and I’ve had the pleasure of working in online marketing for more than 14 years.
Short version…
I began the communications piece of my career at a large health insurance company managing an internal website.
Of course, I had no idea what I was doing. That was 2002 and the company had no idea how to teach me. So, I picked up a couple of continuing education classes, at the local college, and taught myself HTML and project management. I was on a roll!
Then I moved on to a property insurance company where I gained a wealth of experience in writing, newsletters (print/web), journalism, project management, social media and blogging.
I had an awesome boss who was an English and journalism guru, to say the least.
She encouraged me to take continuing education and college courses to hone in and amp up my skills. I am truly grateful for her!
Long version…
I began my work career as a dental assistant. I received my training through the local vocational school while I was in high school.
Being a dental assistant suited me very well for 13 years. So I decided that I want to become a dental hygienist. I took all the necessary pre-requisite classes, or so I thought until I submitted my application for the program and was denied. I cannot tell you how angry I was.
But, as they say, everything happens for a reason. Shortly thereafter, I developed and allergy to latex and had to get out of the field entirely.
I had no idea what I was going to do. All I knew was dental assisting. Thankfully I was referred to the local Vocational Rehab Center.
They were going to teach me how to work on computers and help me get certified in certain Microsoft applications so that I could start building a resume’.
I was thankful to have landed a job at a major health insurance company. There I processed dental claims and answered customer questions. I totally loved it!
I then moved into several different roles within the same company (e.g., billing analyst, plan set-up and web development) with the same company.
Which brings me to, the property insurance company where I gained a wealth of experience in writing, newsletters (print/web), journalism, project management, social media and blogging.
Finally, here I am, SimpleMSolutions. I now specialize in social media marketing. However, I’ve been known to do a little email marketing, build a few websites, write a few blogs and curate content for websites. I love what I do and enjoy the diversity of online marketing.
I would love to chat with you. Feel free to connect with me!
